LONDON, UK — 27 October, 2023 – NAVEX, the leader in integrated risk and compliance management software, announces that its Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) and Whistleblowing Specialist, Jan Stappers, has joined the European AI Alliance. This follows his recent appointment to the Group of Experts on Risk Management in Regulatory Systems (GRM), which functions within the Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardisation Policies (WP.6) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

Stappers was acknowledged for his work on organisational whistleblowing management and engagement in developing the ISO 37002 Guidance. He is also a sought-after speaker and frequent contributor on topics related to GRC, AI, regulatory compliance, and creating ethical culture.

The European AI Alliance is an initiative of the European Commission to establish an open policy dialogue on artificial intelligence (AI). Since its launch in 2018, its members have engaged in regular events, public consultations, and online forum exchanges that shape the European ecosystem of excellence and trust in AI and robotics.

“I’m delighted to join the European AI Alliance,” said Stappers. “I look forward to working with other stakeholders to promote trustworthy AI and manage its governance. Together, we will discuss how to make the most of the opportunities offered by the technology and address the new challenges that it brings. Being the market leader in GRC, NAVEX is in a unique position to address AI and GRC by advising on GRC best practices and applying them to AI development.”

While AI is already applied as a support tool in various aspects of regulatory compliance, most organisations do not effectively oversee how to apply its full potential across the entire GRC landscape. The GRC function is in a critical phase with respect to the responsible use of AI. The European AI Alliance provides a forum to share best practices on how to apply AI in GRC so that global decision-makers can optimise its use. This requires proper and robust corporate governance and risk management controls. Accomplishing this will require a holistic approach, one that involves both leadership and technology.

The members of the European AI Alliance regularly interact with experts, stakeholders, and international actors in the field. Since its establishment, it has captivated around 6,000 stakeholders through events that bring together on average 500 (in person) to 1,000 (virtual) participants annually.
